Through direct classroom teaching sessions at schools, The Philanthropy Club Foundation educates students about philanthropy and the act of giving their time, talent or treasure without expecting anything in return.  Using examples of notable philanthropists, both local and national, the students are taught how they too can become philanthropists beginning with their specific Philanthropy Club Project. The students are introduced to several nonprofit organizations and asked to evaluate and decide which nonprofits will receive their donations and why.  The Philanthropy Club Foundation then provides $2,000-$3,000 for each school project to donate to the nonprofit organizations. Then a representative from each of the receiving nonprofits are invited to attend an “all hands” school assembly, where they thank the students in front of the entire school, all teachers and attending parents. We call this the “Circle Back” event, which provides the opportunity to share the lesson of philanthropic giving far beyond the students in the initial project.

The growth of The Philanthropy Club Foundation has been exciting and has had an overwhelming reception from school superintendents, principals, teachers, parents, and of course, the students themselves.  Philanthropy Club projects currently are conducted at 10 to 15 schools per year.  We estimate that over 3,500 students have participated directly in projects to date. The total number of students, teachers, administrators and parents who have been part of our Circle Back event is well over 12,000.  Schools where projects currently occur are in the districts of Solana Beach, Rancho Santa Fe, and Encinitas. We recently met with the Del Mar Superintendent and are now invited to teach a Project at all 8 schools and committed to adding 4 Del Mar elementary schools for this 2014-2015 school year.

Funding for this project comes from a percentage of The Prestige Realty Group revenues and additional funding from corporations, family foundations and generous individuals. The foundation is currently operated with 100% volunteer time, so donations are passed directly through to the selected nonprofit organization. The Philanthropy Club Foundation is a fully certified 501(c)(3) organization, with EIN of 47-4244950. Donations are made directly to The Philanthropy Club Foundation and we ensure that all Philanthropy Club Project donations are made to registered 501(c)(3) nonprofits in good standing. All Donations made to The Philanthropy Club Foundation will receive a tax donation receipt.
