Rancho Santa Fe student council celebrates a year of giving back with special assembly

The R. Roger Rowe Middle School student council held an assembly on May 24 to present checks to nonprofits Helen Woodward Animal Center, Monarch School, Sole Hope and Lifeboats for Literacy with help from the Philanthropy Club Foundation.

R. Roger Rowe Middle School’s student council developed the “Leadership Through Philanthropy Project” under the direction of Paul Coco (Asst. Principal) and Maureen Cassarino (Student Council Advisor). The team partnered with Dave Baker and Steve Knight of The Philanthropy Club Foundation to organize and facilitate a philanthropic activity each month to benefit local nonprofit organizations.

‘Changing the Age of Philanthropy’

Local businessmen Steve Knight and Dave Baker are “Changing the Age of Philanthropy.” To introduce the rewards of giving to the youth of the community, the co-owners of The Prestige Estates created The Philanthropy Club Foundation.

To support the great work The Philanthropy Club is doing and to attract new donors, The Prestige Estates hosted a Back to School–themed event in Rancho Santa Fe on Aug. 25.

We wanted to teach kids the importance of philanthropy, and to do so, we break down and explain the value of selflessly giving one’s time, talent, and treasure,” says Knight.

Baker adds that it was important to them that the children “learn what philanthropy is in the classroom and then take it home to their families to spread the lesson of giving.

TEEN TURNS PASSION FOR BOOKS INTO CHARITY

Sarah Lackey’s nonprofit has donated thousands of books to local children

Today, Sarah’s family will host the group’s first fundraising event from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at the Inn at Rancho Santa Fe, 5951 Linea del Cielo. Sarah said the free event will include beer, wine and food, a silent auction and an opportunity for volunteers to sign up as campus ambassadors to host book drives at their own schools. Among those planning to attend today’s event is Dave Baker, co-founder of The Philanthropy Club in Rancho Santa Fe. The organization has twice matched donations to Books for Friends.
